Gilt bronze struck medal with obverse showing draped bust of James Monroe facing right with legend: "JAMES MONROE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. A. D. 1817." Reverse shows clasped hands below crossed peace pipe and tomahawk with legend: "PEACE/AND/FRIENDSHIP."
