Description:
Salt-glazed stoneware two-handled jar decorated with incised and cobalt blue painted bird and flower, a stamped flower with seventeen petals beneath each handle and manganese rings at each handle juncture.
Gallery Label:
This jar incorporates a variety of decorating techniques used by early stoneware potters: incising images into the clay, stamping designs with a pre-cut stamp, and painting free-hand or filling in designs with cobalt (blue) and manganese (brown) oxides.
