Brass struck medal with obverse showing female head facing left with legend: "JENNY LIND" and date at right of image: "1850." Reverse bears inscription within line border: "SUCH A SACRED/AND/HOME FELT DELIGHT/SUCH SOBER CERTAINTY/OF WAKING BLISS/I NEVER HEARD/TILL NOW./milton."
Gallery Label:
Jenny Lind (1820-1887), a renown Swedish opera singer known throughout Europe as "The Swedish Nightingale," was invited by P. T. Barnum to tour America in 1850. Her yearlong tour turned out to be a great success with American public, both common and distinguished alike.
