Description:
White metal struck medal with obverse depicting shoulder-length portrait of Jenny Lind facing three quarters to left; legend: "JENNY LIND." Reverse contains central vignette comprised of lyre, nightingale, roses and lilies-of-the-valley; legend: "NESCIT OCCASUM/NATA 1821."
Gallery Label:
Jenny Lind (1820-1887), a renown Swedish opera singer known throughout Europe as "The Swedish Nightingale," was invited by P. T. Barnum to tour America in 1850. Her yearlong tour turned out to be a great success with American public, both common and distinguished alike.
