Description:
Wooden jewelry box covered with dark brown leather which is tooled with acanthus leaf garland around the lid, lid is hinged at the back and the front has a hook and eye on both sides; the lid is lined with quilted white satin with paper maker's label at the center, the box is lined with formed red velvet; box contains 5 pairs of earrings, 2 sets of shirt studs, one ring and one bar pin.

Based on the inside form of this jewelry box, it originally contained a set of three pieces of silverware, including one spoon, made by S. Kirk & Son of Baltimore. The Kirk company America's oldest surviving silversmiths, having been in business since 1815, established by Samuel Kirk with his partner, John Smith.
