Description:
Axe with steel head and wooden handle; head with incurving cutting edge opposite incurving back edge which narrows to a slender spike, and slightly tapered cylindrical mount; carved handle with projecting piece near mid-point and conical tip.

According to the accession records, this object, which is there described as a "Calinga head axe," was acquired by the donor's husband, Colonel James Guthrie Harbord (1866-1947), while serving as Assistant Chief of Philippines Constabulary, U. S. Army, from 1903 to 1914.
