Description:
Bronze struck medal with obverse containing the old coat of arms of Philadelphia within ornate shield; surrounding legend: "THE GIFT OF THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA." Reverse depicts group of four soldiers with burning log cabin village in background; legend: "KITTANNING DESTROYED BY COLl. ARMSTRONG."; in exergue: "SEPTEMBER.8./1756."
Gallery Label:
The original medal was engraved by Edward Duffield (1730-1805) of Philadelphia. Original copies in silver, pewter, copper were struck by Joseph Richardson (1711-1784) in 1757. This bronze medal was made from the U.S. Mint copy dies around 1875.
