Description:
Rectangular wooden frame with black leather cover fastened to front, sides, and bottom; on back is a black leather flap with a white painted number in center and three straps that fasten to studs on bottom of knapsack; riveted to top of knapsack are three straps that fasten to the studs on bottom; and riveted to the back are three shoulder straps that fasten to two sets of double iron buckles on bottom; flap is lined with white canvas on interior; white painted regiment number on front of knapsack.

This knapsack was used by a member of the 79th New York State Militia Regiment during the Civil War.
