Description:
Pair of nearly oval silver knee buckles with a row of paste gems around the frame; vertical double tooth hinged clasp at center.
Gallery Label:
These knee buckles belonged to Joshua Brookes (1773-1859), who came to the United States from England and established himself as a successful New York businessman. He and his wife Martha (1775-1853) were the parents of Martha Brookes (Mrs. Joseph Fernando Waller, 1812-1897) and Anna Brookes (Mrs. Ray Boynton, 1814-1874).
