Description:
Pair of rectangular silver knee buckles with a single row of glass gems backed with foil for brilliance; double tooth clasps; green cotton twill weave pouch.
Gallery Label:
These knee buckles belonged to John Ramage (ca. 1748-1802), an artist born in Ireland. He entered the Dublin School of Artists in 1763. He lived in Nova Scotia from 1772-1774, then went to Boston where he was known as a goldsmith and miniaturist. Ramage moved to New York City in 1777, where he lived until 1794.
