Jennie Chamberlain was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of William Selah Chamberlain. She attended school in Paris before marrying Sir Herbert Scarisbrick Naylor-Leyland, an intimate friend of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII. She was recognized as one of the rare beauties of London society in the 1890s.
