Description:
One of a pair of ship's running lights; lantern with blue-green lens in sheet brass casing; handle joined to slightly domed shoulder, cylindrical body with angled baffle surrounding lens, and hinged door in back; light bulb on porcelain base with cord attached inside; foil-covered reflector attached to inside of door.
Gallery Label:
This lantern came from Kaiser Wilhelm's yacht when it was dismantled in New York City. All running lights were used to indicate the direction in which a ship was heading so as to avoid collision. This example is equipped with a Fresnel lens.
