Description: 
One of a pair of ship's running lights; lantern with ruby lens in sheet brass casing; handle joined to slightly domed shoulder, cylindrical body with angled baffle surrounding lens, and hinged door in back; light bulb on porcelain base with cord attached inside; reflector attached to inside of door.

This lantern came from Kaiser Wilhelm's yacht when it was dismantled in New York City. All running lights were used to indicate the direction in which a ship was heading so as to avoid collision. This example is equipped with a Fresnel lens.
