Bronze struck medal with obverse showing full-length portrait of William Washington on horseback leading his troops in battle with winged figure of Victory overhead, holding palm branches and laurel wreath; legend: "GULIELMO WASHINGTON LEGIONIS EQUIT PREAFECTO" and inscription in ex.: "COMITIA AMERICANA." Reverse bears inscription enclosed within laurel wreath: "QUOD/PARVA MILITUM MANU/STRENUE PROSECUTUS HOSTES/VIRTUTIS INGENITAE/PRAECLARUM SPECIAMEN DEDIT/IN PUGNA AD COWPENS/XVII.JAN.MDCCLXXXI."
