Description:
Black (once brown) fabricated rubber with padded interior; clam-shaped opening at the neck which hinges closed at the chest, with circular hole above to admit head; weighted shoes. Pocket contained a whistle (old acc. #466).

According to the accession record, this life saving suit was worn by the donor, Millicent Todd Bingham, when she went to work under the auspices of the YMCA for the American Expeditionary Forces in France in 1918. She was given the suit due to threat of attack by German submarines. The suit was never used.
