Wrought and cast silver loving cup; circular body flaring toward the rim; lower body repoussé chased with three allegorical vignettes amongst foliate scrolls; cup seated on a circular base with chased vertical bands and a beaded border; three cast acanthus scroll feet applied to the base; three cast strap handles with achanthus decoration and scrolled acanthus joints applied to the body; front center engraved, "Presented to/ Charles W. Dayton/ May 24th, 1897,/ by the officers and employees of the New York Post Office in token of/ thier love and esteem, and of his courtesy, efficiency, justice and impartiality as/ he was appointed by President Cleveland/ June 5th, 1893, and from which he/ resigned May 22d, 1897." in script;makers' marks stamped on the base.
