Copper struck medal with obverse showing clothed bust of Lafayette facing right with legend: "GENERAL LAFAYETTE." Reverse bears inscription within oak wreath: "THE DEFENDER/OF AMERICAN AND/FRENCH LIBERTY/1777 - 1824./BORN IN CHAVANIAC,/THE 6 SEPTEMBER,/1757."
