Description:
Sterling silver matchbox with side hinged lid with floral design on top, all corners are rounded, an admission ticket folded inside designed to resemble a stock certificate, brass medallion with inscription on one side, brass gridiron on the other side.
Gallery Label:
The Gridiron Club was established in 1885 in Washington, D.C. as a dining club. It's purpose was "save to entertain the friends of its members in a unique manner and to banish the boresome features of dining." It's members included prominent politicians, including Theodore Roosevelt and William H. Taft.
