Description:
Sand toy composed of viewing box made of cardboard with glass window containing movable paper cut-out of a female dancer in a red dress; sand-operated mechanism inside box makes the dancer move.

The term "sand toy" is used in Toys in America by Inez and Marshall McClintock (See Publications). According to accession records, this toy belonged to Sarah J. Mills (1828-1884), daughter of John Mills of New York City.
