White metal struck medal with obverse showing left-facing bust-length portrait of Columbus with legend "CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS." Reverse shows central coat of arms topped with orb and cross; legend "400TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DISCOVERY OF AMERICA 1492-1892."
