White metal struck medal with obverse showing left-facing bust-length portrait of Columbus in ruff; legend "CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS 1492." Reverse shows Columbus in prow of boat holding flag and approaching land; legend "400TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DISCOVERY OF AMERICA."
