Description:
Silver struck medal with obverse showing an allegorical female figure of Liberty with American eagle, maritime and urban landscape in the background; legend: "CHERUBISCO/VERA CRUZ/CERRO GORDO/CHAPULTEPEC." Reverse shows a naval officer and a Native American flanking the seal of New York with American eagle atop; legend: "PRESENTED BY THE CITY OF NEW YORK/TO THE N.Y. REGIMENT OF VOLUNTEERS IN MEXICO."
Gallery Label:
The medal was formery the property of George H. Purser (1810-1889), grandfather of the donor and alderman of the 4th Ward during the Mexican War.
