Description:
Wood, iron, brass, and steel flintlock musket; iron furniture; trumpet-head steel ramrod; stamped marks at center and tail of lockplate; stamped proofs at breech end of barrel.
Gallery Label:
The Model 1816 flintlock musket was the primary arm of U.S. infantrymen from 1816 until 1840. By 1861, most serviceable flintlock muskets had been converted to percussion, and many of the altered guns were used by Union and Confederate troops during the Civil War.
