Description:
Wood, iron, steel, and brass percussion musket; Belgian alteration to percussion system; iron furniture; trumpet-head steel ramrod; stamped marks at center and tail of lockplate, barrel tang, buttplate tang, and bottom buttstock; stamped proofs at breech end of barrel; incised letters on left side of buttstock.

The Model 1840 was the last flintlock musket produced by American national armories or private contractors. This musket was given a Belgian alteration by a private contractor, probably during the early 1850's.
