Anna Livingston Petit was the elder daughter of John Jules Petit and Cornelia De Peyster (Livingston) Petit of New York. She married Edward Lyman Short (ca. 1855-1905), a lawyer specializing in railroad and insurance litigation. Her portrait was a gift to the Society from her children, Anna Livingston Short (Mrs. Charles Herbert Jones) and Livingston Lyman Short.
