Description:
Camel-colored cotton Infantry Brigadere General's single-breasted campaign jacket with 1 7/8" closed stand-up collar (2 sets hooks and eyes), eagle insignia on each side of the collar with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on banner above, black shoulder loops with a button at the collar end with star at the center (left star missing); 5 buttons down the front; 4 pockets on the front, one at each breast and hip, with a pleat at the center of each pocket, all with button closure; closed sleeves with false cuffs in chevron shape; buttons cast with shield-breasted eagle clutching arrows and branches in its talons, with "I" on the shield; 2 panels at the back with pleat which is adjustable with lacing on the inside; inside unlined.

This campaign jacket was worn by Colonel Thomas Henry Barber (1844-1905) of the 1st Regiment of the Infantry, New York Volunteers, during the Spanish-American War. He was appointed Brigadere General by the President for the war with Spain during 1899.
