Description:
Dark blue wool double-breasted Lieutenant Colonel (militia artillery) dress coat, with 1 1/2" stand-up closed collar (1 hook and eye), shoulder straps with red ground, a silver leaf at each end, marks at the shoulder on each side near the collar where epaulettes would have been secured, 7 buttons down each side of the front to the waistline, false cuffed sleeves, open, with 3 buttons on each sleeve, 4 panels on the back of the bodice, 4 buttons on the skirt, 2 at the center waistline, 1 on each side of split skirt; bodice lined with red twill-weave linen, breast lightly padded and quilted, skirt lined with black silk, sleeves lined with white linen; all buttons cast with an eagle above a quadrant shield encircled by stars, with "EXCELSIOR" beneath.
