Description: 
Dark blue wool New York National Guard Veteran Corps Artillery double-breasted officer's dress coat, with 1 1/2" closed stand-up collar (1 hook and eye) lined with dark blue velvet, metal attachments at the shoulders for epaulettes, 7 buttons down each side of the fronts, with right side watch pocket, closed false cuffs with 3 buttons, flared skirt; 4 panels at the back of the bodice, with 2 buttons near the center at the waistline, a button on each side of the split skirt; bodice buttons cast with "N 7 G" encircled with crossed branches, cuff buttons cast with eagle flying with a shield in its beak above a banner reading "NYSA"; coat lined with dark green twill-weave cotton, sleeves lined with white silk, breast lightly padded and quilted, vertical slit pocket on left breast.
Gallery Label: 
This Veteran Corps coat was worn by Ernest Louis Walz (1836-1918). Walz served in the New York State militia during the Civil War. The Society also owns the remaining pieces to this uniform, including sword and scabbard.
