Description:
Dark blue wool double-breasted militia officer's dress coat; 1 3/4" stand-up collar lined with dark blue velvet (1 hook and eye); one buttonhole on each shoulder near the collar and a shoulder strap at the outer edge of the shoulder to secure epaulettes, at outer edge at the front of each shoulder beneath epaulette area there are 4 loops, and at the back of the shoulder beneath the epaulette area there are 2 loops, to apply (probably by sewing) decorations (buttons?); 7 buttons down each side of the front of the bodice, open false cuffs on the sleeves each with 3 buttons; 4 panels at the back of the bodice, with 2 buttons at the waistline and 1 button securing split skirt together; the fabric along the interior of the lapels are finished with pinking; bodice and sleeves lined with white linen, breast thickly padded and lightly quilted, skirt lined with dark green silk; all buttons cast with an eagle above a quadrant shield surrounded with stars, with "EXCELSIOR" below.
