Description:
Dark blue wool infantry officer's double-breasted dress coat, with 1 1/4" open stand-up collar lined with dark blue (?) velvet, shoulder straps with metal 5-pointed single star at the center against dark blue velvet ground, 7 buttons down each side of the front, 9" sleeves (flat) have open false cuffs with 3 buttons each; 4 panels at the back of the bodice, with 2 buttons toward the center of the waistline, 1 button on each side of split skirt; all buttons cast with an eagle above a shield, with "EXCELSIOR" across the bottom; coat lined with dark green cotton, sleeves lined with red silk, bodice lightly padded and quilted, horizontal slit pocket at the right breast.

This infantry officer's coat is part of a uniform worn by Colonel John T. Lockman during the Civil War. The Society also owns the other pieces to complete this uniform.
