Description:
Dark blue (black?) wool Naval commander's double-breasted dress coat with double collar; attachments on the shoulders for straps; 9 buttons down each side of the front, buttons cast with eagle perched on an anchor encircled by stars; closed sleeves (no cuffs) with 4 bands of gilt lacing around each wrist with a star above the lacing; 4 panels across the back of the bodice, with 2 buttons near the center at the waistline, a button at the bottom of each side of split skirt; coat lined with dark green silk, horizontal slit pocket at the left breast; sleeves lined with white silk.
Gallery Label:
This dress coat was worn by Naval commander George Elmore Ide when he served from 1891-1899. The Society also owns other pieces to this uniform, as well as other of his uniforms.
