Description:
Black wool Air Force dress trousers with gold and blue lace stripes along the side of each leg; 5-button fly has a tab extending aat the top left side which fastens with a button and a hook and eye inside the waistband; horizontal slit right side watch pocket beneath the waistband; 6 buttons around the waistband; vertical side slit pockets on each side behind stripes, 2 rear pockets with flaps which button closed, all buttons plain black plastic; waistband, pockets and fly lined with gray silk.

These trousers were worn by Colonel Stedman Shumway Hanks of New York during World War II; the Society owns the complete uniform. According to Col. Hanks, this uniform was not regulation issue in 1960 when it was donated. It was, however, required evening dress when the U.S.A.F. became a separate department of the War Department. It was required only for official receptions such as those at the White House and when military dignitaries held special meetings with foreign representatives.
