Description:
Black wool Naval commander's dress 3-pocket waistcoat, with double collar and lapels, collar and lapels are lined with dark brown cotton, 3 buttons at the stomach (not original); button cast with eagle perched on an anchor encircled by stars; back is made of dark brown twill-weave cotton, with 2 straps at the waist which buckle at the center on rectangular metal buckle with double-tongued chape; lined with white cotton.
Gallery Label:
This waistcoat is part of a uniform worn by Naval commander George Elmore Ide from 1891-1899. The Society also owns other of Ide's uniform items.
