Description:
Brown and white pin striped cotton seer-sucker long-sleeved Lieutenant's single-breasted jacket with lapels (no collar); each lapel has an insignia of an anchor set in front of a propeller; 4 dark brown plastic buttons down the front, cast with eagle clutching an anchor; 4 pockets on the front; closed sleeves (no cuffs), 2 bands of dark blue or black lacing around the wrists with a star above; 4 panels across the back of the jacket; shoulder pads inside.
Gallery Label:
This jacket is part of a W.A.V.E.S. uniform. "W.A.V.E.S." stands for "Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service." The branch was formed for the Navy during World War II, around 1942. The Society owns the remaining items to this uniform, as well as an additional complete W.A.V.E.S. uniform.
