Description:
Cream-colored gabardine Naval Ensign's single-breasted jacket with double collar and short lapels, with 4 metal buttons down the front cast with an eagle clutching an anchor, with porcelain on the reverse; insignia on each lapel, with anchor in front of a propeller; a false pocket on each breast; closed sleeves (no cuffs) with 1 stripe of dark blue lacing around each wrist; 3 panels across the back; horizontal slit pockets inside on each breast.
Gallery Label:
This jacket is part of a W.A.V.E.S. uniform worn by Naval Ensign Mary Jane Natto. "W.A.V.E.S." stands for "Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service." The branch was formed for the Navy during World War II, around 1942. The Society owns the remaining items to this uniform, as well as an additional complete W.A.V.E.S. uniform.
