Undated letter reported on the "back of the sketch (probably old mount)" not extant: "294 Fifth Ave / My Dear Old Friend, / At La Farge's sale some nights ago, I was so fortunate as to secure the crayon sketch which accompanies this --Will you accept it as a token of the affectionate regard that I bear you? / Sincerely yours. G.T. Thomas"
