Gallery Label:
A similar illustration by Fernand Harvey Lungren (1857-1932), 1879, was published in Scriber's Magazine, October 1880, p. 857, with an article on "Shantytown." The Society also owns a pencil sketch by Lungren (1930.71) of shanties on 69th Street, 1879. Eleventh Avenue is now West End Avenue.
