Gilt bronze struck medal with obverse showing bust-length portrait of Orville Derby with surrounding legend: "DIVISAO . DE . GEOLOGIA . E. MINERALOGIA . /ORVILLE . A. DERBY ." Reverse depicts crossed hammers with letters "D", "G", and "M" and dates below: "1851-1951"; surrounding legend: "CENTENARIO . DE . NASCIMENTO . DE . ORVILLE . A. DERBY." Medal is inset into dark blue square cardboard box.
