Description:
One of a pair of cast gilt-bronze candelabra with five branches surrounding central elevated socket; central socket above bobeche on gilt pedestal in the form of a stlized plant; five curved branches with candle sockets decorated with stylized leaves above bobeches decorated with gilt garlands of fruit; patinated bronze fluted columnar shaft with gilt capital of stylized leaves, central band of Classically- garbed women and acanthus leaves at base; column supported by four paw feet on square plinth decorated with alternating gilt plaques depicting pair of cornucopias and basket of fruit.
Gallery Label:
According to the donor, these candelabra were used in the Senate Chamber of Federal Hall, though stylistically the pieces seem to post-date the building's use by the Federal Congress.
