Description:
Colorless lead glass paperweight in the shape of a sphere on flat circular base with pontil mark; internal steel-die motif of white single-masted sailboat with red flag on green water.
Gallery Label:
This paperweight may have been made by Michael Kane. The steel-die sailing sloop was possibly meant to represent the "Spray," in which Captain Joshua Slocum started around the world in 1895 (see "Glass Paperweights of the New-York Historical Society," pp. 135 and 182).
