Description:
Lead glass paperweight of flattened spherical shape enclosing sulphide profile portrait of Benjamin Franklin on deep cobalt blue ground.
Gallery Label:
Sulphides-small white clay medallions embedded in glass-imitated the cameos of ancient Rome. During the mid-19th century, the Clichy Glasshouse produced sulphide paperweights of many celebrated figures, from Marie Antoinette and Napoleon to George Washington and Benjamin Franklin.
