Manship, the sculptor of the colossal figure of Prometheus in Rockefeller Plaza, was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota. After studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts he won a scholarship to the American Academy in Rome where he was to spend much of his long, productive career.
