When the 150th anniversary of Paul Revere's ride took place in 1925, the American Numismatic Society commissioned Anthony de Francisci, the designer of the "Peace Dollar" and the "Maine Centennial Half-Dollar," to create a commemorative medal. Unfortunately, there was little interest among subscribers and the piece turned out to be a financial failure. The reverse design was also criticized for its depiction of Paul Revere mounting his horse from the wrong flank.
