The subject was born in Rahde, Hanover, Germany. He began his career in the sugar business in London, and when he immigrated to New York, in 1837, became superintendant of the Woolsey and Woolsey sugar house. In 1849 he entered the firm of Havemeyer and Moller, and he later acquired sole interest in the New-York Steam Refining Co. Moller founded the Evangelicala Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Asylum.
