Bronze struck medal with obverse showing seated allegorical female figure representing America crowning with laurel wreath assorted implements of science, progress, and learning; the whole is surrounded by thirty-eight stars and four oval medallions depicting allegorical representations of America, Asia, Africa, and Europe. Reverse bears inscription at center within laurel wreath: "AWARDED BY/UNITED STATES/CENTENNIAL/COMMISSION"; surrounding legend: "INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION/PHILADELPHIA, MDCCCLXXVI."
