White metal struck medal with overse depicting exhibition buildings with legend above: "CENTENNIAL/EXPOSITION"; inscription in exergue: "PHILADELPHIA", date below wihin shield bearing thirteen stars: "1876.' Reverse is inscribed: "1776/ILLUSTRATING/THE GROWTH AND PROSPERITY/OF A FREE PEOPLE/IN A HUNDRED YEARS/1876." Medal inset into green circular carboard box.
