Description:
Circular silver medal suspended from three bars connected by chains; all bars are inscribed with blue letters; top bar is held by an eagle and inscribed "AWARDED BY STATE OF NEW YORK"; next bar inscribed "RESCUER JOHN H. RAPP"; next bar inscribed "RESCUED SEVERAL PERSONS"; obverse engraved with crossed guns and superimposed life preserver inscribed "STATE OF NEW YORK " and "COMPTROLLERS AWARD"; center has anchor; reverse a semi-circular inscription "NEW YORK CITY 1864-1872" and at bottom "R. Stoll NY" "STERLING".
