Description: 
Gold medal in the form of a formée cross, with black onyx inlay on obverse, hinged pin and hook attachments on reverse; there is a serpent entwined around a cross at the center, against red enamel ground, inside a 9-pointed star with "IN HOC SIGNO VINCES" around the cross, with crossed bones, an open book, and a skull below; inscription throughout reverse, surrounding engraved imate of a plumed armor helmet and gorget in profile above a shield with a cross that has 5 upturned crescents, a floral garland on each side, set above inscribed banner across the bottom.
