Description:
Two white pinback campaign buttons divided horizontally into red, white and blue sections, the large one with a shield around a photograph of Thomas Dewey, the small one with just the word "Dewey" inside the shield, both surrounded by "Vote Dewey For President". Thomas Edmund Dewey (1902-1971) of Pawling, Dutchess County, N.Y.; Republican. U.S. District Attorney for the Southern District of New York, 1933; candidate for Republican nomination for President, 1940; Governor of New York, 1943-55; defeated, 1938; candidate for President of the United States, 1944, 1948.
