Description:
Shallow porcelain plate with slightly scalloped rim, with river view in gold frame accented with gilding at the center surrounded by three floral sprays within molded arabesque borders highlighted with gilding; border of blue around rim with gilding around edge.

The plate is from a large service of 435 pieces made for Willem V, Stadholder of the Netherlands (1748-1806), by the Meissen Manufactory. The service features views of cities and buildings painted after printed sources. It was sold in 1823 and subsequently dispersed around the world. The largest collection is currently at Het Loo palace near Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.
The inscription on the reverse of this plate indicates that the view represents the Dutch town of Breukelen.
